Kevin Scott Crosslin, better known by his recording alias Cavestar, is an American musician, producer, and multimedia artist whose career spans decades. Hailing from the Chicago area, Crosslin honed his craft in both rock and electronic ensembles before moving to Los Angeles in the mid-1990s. He debuted with the track Quiet Light on the 1994 compilation Spirit of Wandjina via Belgium's Antler-Subway Records. Signed shortly after to California label Mindspore Records, he released his self-titled debut album in 1997. Blending downtempo rhythms, atmospheric textures, and field recordings, the album earned him college radio recognition throughout the US and Europe. He was then tapped for a soundtrack contribution to the 1999 film Speedway Junky. In 1998, while holding a DJ residency at Hollywood's Les Deux Cafés he also worked as a volunteer on-air assistant at LA radio station KCRW. Collaborating with like-minded artists, Crosslin co-founded the K2K imprint and curated the influential Los Angeles Critical Mass compilation, spotlighting the city's burgeoning electronic music scene. Departing L.A. in 2004, he briefly returned to Chicago to assemble the CDMS multimedia studio before resettling in Arizona. Cavestar continues to explore experimental musical landscapes—drawing from urban and natural noise as well as prerecorded sound libraries.
